Irish Batter Rebecca Stokell Admits Banned Substance Charge, Accepts Voluntary Provisional Suspension
Ireland women's batter Rebecca Stokell has admitted using a banned substance. After a specified banned substance was found in her sample, the International Cricket Council (ICC) charged her with breaching its anti-doping code. She then admitted the charge and voluntarily accepted a provisional suspension.
In a statement on Monday (2 November), the ICC said a test taken in competition on 23 June 2026 found the banned substance in Stokell's sample. She was then notified of the anti-doping rule violation charge against her.
After learning of the matter, Stokell admitted the charge. However, she told the ICC that the incident happened because of medication she had obtained through a prescription.
The cricketer has voluntarily accepted a provisional suspension from 23 October until the disciplinary process is completed. That means she cannot take the field until the process is finalised.
Stokell made her international cricket debut in 2017. She has so far played 109 international matches for Ireland.
The ICC said it will make no further comment on the matter until the disciplinary process is concluded.
