Popular 1990s film actress Arifa Parveen Moushumi turned 53 on Tuesday (November 3), stepping into her 54th year. Known as "Priyadarshini", she has starred in countless commercially successful films. This birthday, however, her husband, film actor Omar Sani, is not beside her; from a distant country he wished her well through a video message on social media.

In the video message Omar Sani said: "Moushumi, Allah has kept you well, for that Alhamdulillah! No matter how far away you are, distance is no issue. Today, November 3, is your birthday. I have been celebrating your birthday for the past 35 years."

Moushumi has been living in the United States for several years, while Omar Sani remains busy in the country with business and acting. In the message he said they would meet very soon: "After you got your green card, everyone congratulated you. I congratulate you too. If Allah keeps us alive, we will meet within a few days."

Wishing his wife health and honour, Omar Sani added: "Moushumi, on your birthday my one prayer to Allah is for your health, your honour, your self-respect and your compassion. Most of all, may Allah increase even further the respect people have for you. Happy birthday, Priyadarshini Moushumi."

Fans and followers also posted greetings in the comments of the video message and wished the beloved star good health. Moushumi said a few years ago that she does not usually arrange birthday celebrations herself; it is her friends and relatives who organise special events around the day.

Moushumi was born on November 3, 1973, in Khulna. Her father was Nazmuzzaman Moni and her mother Shamima Akhtar Zaman. She began her career as a child actress and singer. She then won the "Ananda Bichitra Photo Beauty Contest", which led to work in television commercials in 1990.

Her debut as a film heroine came in 1993 in Sohannur Rahman Sohan's "Keyamot Theke Keyamot", opposite Salman Shah. The pair proved their talent in their very first film. Moushumi went on to act in Dhallywood for more than three decades. She won National Film Awards for Nargis Akhtar's "Meghla Akash" and Chashi Nazrul Islam's "Debdas". Moushumi and Omar Sani first paired on screen in "Dola"; during its shoot in Sylhet the two had a falling-out, but that distance gradually turned into affection. They married on March 4, 1995, and have a daughter and a son. Once highly active in films, Moushumi is no longer a regular on screen.
