PM Orders Tk 3 Crore Grant for Christmas Celebrations, a Crore More Than the Trust Asked For

Prime Minister Tarek Rahman has directed that a grant of Tk 3 crore be given for the celebration of Christmas. The Christian Religious Welfare Trust had applied for a grant of Tk 2 crore; the prime minister ordered Tk 1 crore more than that.
The prime minister's deputy press secretary Hasan Shiplu confirmed the information. He said the prime minister approved the Tk 3 crore grant on a summary sent by the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
The allocation was proposed for the celebration of Christmas 2026, the main religious festival of Christians, on December 25. The money will come from the Prime Minister's Relief and Welfare Fund, through the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
The ministry's summary said initiatives have been taken to run religious and social welfare activities at various places in the country through the Christian Religious Welfare Trust on the occasion of Christmas. A special grant from the relief and welfare fund was proposed for this purpose.
The summary proposed an allocation of Tk 2 crore for Christmas this year, 2026, in favour of the Christian Religious Welfare Trust and sought the prime minister's approval. The prime minister instead directed that a grant of Tk 3 crore be given.
