BSF Push-In Attempt With Lights Off Foiled at Burimari Border in Lalmonirhat by BGB and Locals

India's Border Security Force (BSF) tried to push people in with the lights turned off at the Burimari border in Patgram, Lalmonirhat. The attempt failed because of the firm position taken by the BGB on duty at the border and by local residents.
The incident took place on Tuesday, November 3, at around 8 p.m. in the Byanger Bari area of Ward No. 6 of Burimari Union in Patgram upazila. The spot is by sub-pillar 2S of international boundary pillar No. 832.
Local people said that at night, BSF members on the other side of the border suddenly turned off their searchlights and, in the darkness, tried to push people into Bangladeshi territory.
Realising what was happening, local people immediately became alert. They gathered at the border. Several BSF members were later also seen running near the border.
Local people said that after some time, following shouting by Bangladeshis, the BSF members turned the lights back on.
A local resident named Nurul Islam said that when the lights were suddenly turned off at around 8 p.m., they shouted. After that, they kept guard at the border with sticks, along with the BGB.
No statement was received from the Teesta Battalion (61 BGB) on the matter.
However, a BGB member, speaking on condition of anonymity, said a special patrol team of the Dhabalsuti BOP is on high alert to protect the border. The BGB and local people are ready and in a firm position to resist any aggressive attitude by the BSF.
