Joint Push for International Research: IIUM and World University of Bangladesh Sign Letter of Intent

Staff Reporter

The International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) and the World University of Bangladesh (WUB) have jointly organised a two-day international programme aimed at international research, academic excellence and knowledge exchange.

As part of the programme, an international seminar and a letter of intent signing ceremony were held on Tuesday (3 November) under the initiative of the two universities.

WUB Registrar Professor Zaki Imam delivered the welcome address at the event, welcoming the domestic and foreign guests.

A high-level IIUM delegation travelled to Bangladesh to take part in the programme. It included Deputy Rector for Research, Innovation and Development Professor Dr Mohammad Aslam bin Mohammad Hanif, Principal Director of the Office of Strategic Institutional Transformation Professor Dr Shukran Abdur Rahman, special officer to the Deputy Rector Abdul Hamid Abu Sulaiman, and Assistant Professor Dr Mohammad Motiuddin of the Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences.

At the start of the programme, three WUB teachers from different faculties presented their research. They were Assistant Professor Dr S. M. Mahmudul Hasan of Biomedical Engineering and Public Health, Professor Dr Md Mizanur Rahman, head of Mechanical Engineering and director of the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell, and Professor Dr Selim Ahmed, dean of the Faculty of Business.

The international seminar's theme centred on the role of universities in a changing world. It discussed the future of higher education, the development of research, and the prospects and challenges of higher education in the context of Bangladesh's national and global aspirations.

At the seminar, the IIUM representatives shared their experience and views on international higher education, research development, institutional transformation and academic excellence.

An open discussion session, moderated by WUB's Dean of Academic Affairs and Research Professor Dr A. Q. M. Shafiul Azam, was held with representatives of both universities taking part. Crests of honour were presented to the guests at the end of the discussion.

As an important part of the event, a letter of intent was signed between IIUM and WUB. Through it, an initiative has been taken to build a framework for future research, academic activities and strategic cooperation between the two universities.

The organisers hope this international initiative will make it easier to expand knowledge and experience exchange and research cooperation between the two universities.
