The deceased student was Adnan Altaf Rather, 26. He was the son of Altaf Hossain Rather and Nighat Begum of Jammu and Kashmir, India, and was a student at Cumilla Eastern Medical College.

On Wednesday morning, local residents saw a body floating in a pond in the Manipuri area and informed police. Police went to the spot and recovered the body. Police said no injury marks were found on his body.

Citing Eastern Medical College, police said Adnan Altaf Rather was admitted to the college in 2019. Most of his classmates have finished their studies and begun their internships, but he had been irregular in class.
