A police sub-inspector named Jahangir Alam, 52, has died from a shot from his own pistol in Ashuganj, Brahmanbaria.

The incident happened at the Ashuganj Fertiliser Factory police outpost at around 7:30am on Wednesday (4 November). Jahangir Alam was the in-charge of that outpost.

The deceased Jahangir's home is in the Purba Khabashpur area under Kotwali police station in Faridpur. His father's name was the late Ali Akbar Talukdar.

Police sources said Jahangir Alam went out for a walk after Fajr prayers, as he did every day. A gunshot was heard shortly after he returned to the outpost.

Police members later entered his room and found his body lying bloodied on the floor. His service pistol was lying beside the body.

Police sources said it was not immediately known why he shot himself with his own pistol.

Brahmanbaria police ASP (Administration) Arafatul Islam Jahangir said the body has been sent to the 250-bed Brahmanbaria General Hospital for autopsy.
