After 133 in Sylhet, Jangoo says his mother is not Bangladeshi

West Indies left-handed batter Ameer Jangoo looked surprised at the press conference after the second day's play in the second Test at Sylhet International Stadium. Asked whether his mother is Bangladeshi, he laughed as he answered. Jangoo said, 'My mother is Bangladeshi? No, that is not true.'
Jangoo had already reached a century on the first day of this Test. He added more runs on the second day and finished with 133. That innings put him in the spotlight, and he came to the press conference after the day's play ended.
He made his 133 from 212 balls, with 13 fours and 2 sixes. He batted for 308 minutes, or 5 hours and 8 minutes. He shared two century partnerships, for the fourth and fifth wickets with Kevin Wickham and Justin Greaves, contributing when his team was in trouble.
Bangladesh are one of Jangoo's favourite opponents. Two of his four centuries in international cricket have come against Bangladesh. His earlier century against Bangladesh, in 2024, came in the match in which he made his ODI debut.
After settling in, Jangoo was dismissed leaving a ball from Hasan Mahmud that came back in. He gave the credit for that dismissal to Hasan. At the press conference Jangoo said Hasan had bowled in the same area continuously, with the ball seaming out and seaming in. After the ball pitched he had thought it would go away, but it came back in.
After the first day's play Kevin Wickham had spoken of hoping for 400 runs against Bangladesh. The West Indies total, however, finished 44 runs short of that expectation. Jangoo said that whatever the score, their thinking now is to bowl Bangladesh out quickly. In his words, they want to keep Bangladesh below 250 runs.
Jangoo also said the wicket is quite good. Bangladesh's pacers have bowled well and taken wickets. But once a batter gets set, taking his wicket is difficult — that is how cricket is.
Of the 13 wickets to fall so far in this Test in Sylhet, 11 have gone to pacers. Among the spinners, only Mehedi Hasan Miraz has taken wickets, with 2. Hasan Mahmud has taken 6 wickets and Taskin Ahmed 2. The Caribbean pacers Seales, Joseph and Greaves have taken one wicket each. At the close of the second day Bangladesh were 88 for 3.
