Hridoy hits maiden Test fifty in Sylhet, but Bangladesh still trail by 216

Staff Reporter

Tawhid Hridoy scored his maiden half-century in his third Test, on the third day of the Sylhet Test against West Indies. His fifty brought some relief to Bangladesh's batting, but the team still trails the tourists by 216 runs.

Bangladesh resumed the third day on Saturday at 88 for 3, but the start was not a good one. Mushfiqur Rahim and Liton Das both departed after offering catches to a West Indies short fielder.

Bangladesh lost their fifth wicket at 138. Tawhid Hridoy, who then came to the crease, completed his first Test fifty off 109 balls and remains unbeaten, with Mehidy Hasan Miraz joining him at the crease.

Coach Phil Simmons came out of the dressing room to applaud Hridoy as he reached his first half-century. It was a special moment for Hridoy, and perhaps a consolation for Bangladesh's struggling batting in recent times.

After the dismissals of Mushfiq and Liton put the team under pressure, Hridoy batted patiently to try to carry the side forward. His fifty has brought some stability back to Bangladesh's innings.

The scoreboard, however, still makes difficult reading. Bangladesh, on 138 for 5, remain 216 runs behind the Caribbean side.

How far Bangladesh's innings progresses now depends on the partnership between Hridoy and Miraz at the crease.
