Police have recovered the semi-decomposed body of a young man named Babu Sheikh (25) from a paddy field in Tanore upazila of Rajshahi. It is suspected that he died of electrocution while trying to steal a transformer.
The body was lying beside a deep tube-well at a place called Bot-tola in Kochua village of Pachandor union in Tanore upazila. Locals spotted the body this Saturday morning and informed the police. Police then recovered the body and sent it to the morgue of Rajshahi Medical College for autopsy.
Babu Sheikh's home was in Bheramara sadar of Kushtia. His father's name is Islam Sheikh.
Babu Sheikh's brother-in-law, Md. Masud, said that as far as they knew, Babu worked as a construction labourer. Four days ago, Babu left home telling his wife that he was going to work. Since then, his mobile phone had been switched off.
The mobile phones of the people Babu went to work with were also switched off. A day later, one of them called to say that Babu had died of electrocution in Tanore and that the body was lying in the field.
After hearing this news, family members went to Tanore last Thursday. They searched various areas but found no trace of Babu's body. They then left their phone numbers with the police.
