Anglers Flock to Sreepur Fishing Festival on Tk 10,000 Tickets

More than fifty hobby anglers have taken part in a fishing event in Sreepur, Gazipur, buying tickets worth 10,000 taka each. The event began on Saturday morning (7 November) at Kittapukur, a pond in Sreepur municipality.
The event has been organised by Md Kamal Hossain, who holds the lease of the pond. Since morning, the anglers have been fishing in a festive atmosphere.
On the spot, small bamboo platforms could be seen built on both sides of the pond. Sitting in rows on these platforms, the anglers are fishing with rods.
Some rods are catching big fish, while others are pulling up small ones. Meanwhile, hundreds of curious onlookers have gathered on the banks of the pond to watch the fishing.
Whenever a big fish is caught, the spectators break into cheers and celebration, giving the pondside the air of a festival.
Angler Monir Uddin said, 'I bought a ticket for 10,000 taka and have been fishing since morning. I have gathered different kinds of bait for the fish. The bait is made with various ingredients, including ant eggs. So far the catch has been fairly good, though small fish are being caught more than big ones.'
Another angler, Mohsin Prodhan, said, 'I have been fishing since morning and the experience has been good so far. Profit and loss do not matter here. It is mostly about enjoyment. Even though the ticket costs 10,000 taka, some will catch fish worth more than that, and some will catch less.'
The organiser and leaseholder, Md Kamal Hossain, said, 'More than fifty anglers have joined this event by buying tickets worth 10,000 taka each. The pond has native rui, katla and other carp species. Since morning, the anglers have been fishing in a festive atmosphere, and whenever a big fish is caught, celebrations begin on the pondside.'
Alongside the anglers, many curious people have gathered at the pond to enjoy the fishing. The event, running since morning, has created a festive mood around the Kittapukur area of Sreepur.
