Santos appoint Neymar's father to senior role

Staff Reporter

Santos have appointed Neymar Senior as their new chief executive with immediate effect. Under the initial agreement, Neymar's father will hold the role until the end of December.

If current president Marcelo Teixeira wins next month's election, the 61-year-old businessman's contract will automatically be renewed for 2027-2029.

Journalist Lucas Musetti first reported the news on Friday. It was later confirmed by ESPN Brazil.

In the club's leadership structure, Neymar Senior sits directly below Teixeira. Internally, the move is seen as a clear show of support from Neymar's family for the current administration.

Teixeira has not yet formally announced his candidacy for the election on 12 December.

Despite his senior position, Neymar Senior will not interfere with the work of football director Alexandre Mattos, who retains full control over sporting operations.

Confirming the appointment of the 61-year-old, Santos said in an official statement, '(Neymar Senior) will coordinate directly with the club's management and oversee various areas such as football, marketing and the new commercial companies.'

The appointment further strengthens the family's influence inside Santos. Now directly involved in the club's management, he will look after the commercial and administrative side beyond football, while responsibility for the pitch remains with the football director.
