Government to buy 850,000 tonnes of Aman paddy and rice, paddy priced at Tk 35 per kg

The government will buy paddy from farmers at Tk 35 per kg and rice at Tk 49 per kg in the current Aman season of fiscal year 2026-27. The procurement price of atap rice has been fixed at Tk 48 per kg. The government has set a target of procuring a total of 850,000 metric tonnes of paddy and rice this season.
The decisions were taken at a meeting of the Food Planning and Monitoring Committee (FPMC) on Sunday (8 November). The meeting finalised the procurement target, prices and schedule for the Aman season of 2026-27.
Under the decisions, the government will procure 300,000 metric tonnes of Aman paddy, 500,000 metric tonnes of parboiled rice and 50,000 metric tonnes of atap rice this time.
Paddy procurement will begin on 14 November and continue until 28 February 2027. Parboiled and atap rice procurement will begin on 1 December and also run until 28 February 2027.
The meeting said the government is working to build a farmer-centred modern agricultural system, in line with the promises in its election manifesto for 2026.
Alongside eradicating hunger and poverty, ensuring food and nutrition security is one of the government's key goals, the meeting noted.
Ensuring a fair price for farmers' produce has been treated as the main objective of this Aman procurement drive, the meeting's press note said.
Under the fixed schedule, paddy procurement begins on 14 November and rice procurement on 1 December. Both will continue until 28 February 2027.
