District Detective Branch (DB) police have arrested two men with 2,000 yaba tablets in a raid in the Maona Chowrasta area of Sreepur municipality in Gazipur. The raid was carried out late on Sunday night (25 October).

The two arrested men are Mohammad Roni Pathan (25), organising secretary of the Gazipur district unit of the banned Chhatra League, and his associate Nayan Mia (25). Roni Pathan is a resident of the Telihati area of Sreepur upazila.

Inspector Md Hasmat Ullah of the Gazipur district DB confirmed the arrests on Monday afternoon (26 October).

According to DB police sources, acting on a secret tip, officers conducted anti-narcotics raids at several places in Sreepur upazila late on Sunday night. During the operation, Roni Pathan and Nayan Mia were detained in the Maona Chowrasta area, and 2,000 yaba tablets were recovered from them.

Police said no information about any other case against the two men has been found so far. Legal action has, however, been taken against them over the yaba recovery.
