A new low-pressure area has formed over the south Andaman Sea and adjoining area while Cyclone Arnab has weakened, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department has said.

The department gave the information in its forecast issued on Thursday, 29 October, covering 120 hours from 6pm that evening.

According to the forecast, Arnab, which had been over the west-central Bay of Bengal, moved west-northwest and weakened first into a land deep depression and then into a land depression.

It is now positioned as a well-marked low over India's Chhattisgarh and adjoining area and may move further north while gradually weakening more, the forecast said.

Under the influence of the new low, light to moderate rain or thundershowers with gusty wind may occur at many places in Rangpur, Rajshahi and Khulna divisions in the 24 hours from Thursday evening.

During the same period, rain may occur at one or two places in Mymensingh, Dhaka, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, with moderately heavy rainfall possible in places.

On Friday, rain or thundershowers are likely at one or two places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna and Sylhet divisions, according to the forecast.

The rain tendency may decrease from Saturday. Rain or thundershowers may occur at one or two places in Khulna and Chattogram on Sunday, and in Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions on Monday.
