Technical board pass rate 49.43 percent, more than half fail; 886 students achieve GPA-5

The pass rate in this year's HSC examinations under the Bangladesh Technical Education Board is 49.43 percent. That means more than half of the students under this board have failed. A total of 886 students achieved GPA-5.
The HSC and equivalent examination results were published at around 11 am on Saturday (31 October). Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon announced the results at a programme at the Ministry of Education at the Secretariat.
A total of 102,947 students sat the HSC (BM/BMT), HSC (Vocational) and HSC (Diploma in Commerce) examinations under the Technical Education Board. Of them, 50,889 passed and 52,058 failed.
Last time, the pass rate under this board was 62.57 percent and 1,610 students achieved GPA-5. This year the pass rate has fallen by about 13 percentage points, and the number of GPA-5 achievers has dropped by nearly half.
Two years ago the picture was very different. In 2024, the pass rate under this board was 88.09 percent and 4,922 students achieved GPA-5. In two years, the pass rate has fallen by about 39 percentage points and GPA-5 achievers by more than 80 percent.
Girls are well ahead in the pass rate under this board. The girls' pass rate is 61.64 percent, against 44.68 percent for boys. A total of 33,099 boys and 17,790 girls passed.
The gap is even bigger in GPA-5. Of the 886 GPA-5 achievers, 706 are girls and only 180 are boys — meaning four out of every five GPA-5 achievers under this board are girls.
The average pass rate across all 11 education boards this year is 52.12 percent; the technical board's rate is below even that average. The pass rate in the Madrasa Board's Alim examination is 61.07 percent. The technical board had 107,964 registered candidates this year, and about 5,000 of them did not sit the examination.
