Police have sent Ahmed Shahriar Reza Dip, a friend of former Air Force flight lieutenant K M Tahsif Sauri, to court in the murder case over Tahsif's death. Police will seek seven days' remand to interrogate him.

Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Mostafa Kamal of the Naval Police's Dhaka Range told the media on Saturday (31 October) that Dip had been sent to court with a prayer for seven days' remand, and that more information about the incident would emerge after remand interrogation.

Earlier, Tahsif's father K M Enayetul Karim filed the case as plaintiff at Uttarkhan police station in the capital on Friday night. Dip, described as Tahsif's 'junior friend', was shown arrested in the case. Although the case was filed at Uttarkhan police station, the Naval Police will investigate it.

Dip, who was in custody for interrogation, was then handed over to the Naval Police. The PBI handed Dip over to the Naval Police on Friday (30 October).

On Wednesday afternoon (28 October), police recovered Tahsif's body from the Turag River in the Rajabari naval ghat area under Uttarkhan police station in the capital.

Constable Rakib, on duty at the Naval Police control room, told the media that after receiving news through the 999 number, a Naval Police team went to the spot and recovered the body. Tahsif was identified after his mobile phone and wristwatch were found, and the body was sent to the morgue of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital in the capital for autopsy.

He added that it is initially believed he died by drowning, but the real cause of death will be confirmed once the autopsy report is received.

In connection with the incident, the PBI detained Tahsif's friend Dip from a home on Babar Road in Mohammadpur in the capital late on Thursday night (29 October).

On Friday, the investigation team took Dip to a field near boundary pillar 29 in the Mazar Basti area adjoining the Turag River in Tongi. Based on information he provided, a black Suzuki Gixxer 150 motorcycle without a number plate was recovered there. The motorcycle is believed to be Tahsif's.

The PBI said several inconsistencies were found in Dip's statements. He has given different information at different times about why they went to that area on the night of the incident.

Dip claims that while they were talking in the area adjoining the Turag River on the night of the incident, several people in police uniform chased them. In fear, Tahsif jumped into the river, while Dip hid and later fled. The investigating agency is verifying whether the chasers were really police and whether their presence there was lawful.

Sources linked to the investigation said that after leaving his Uttara home on the evening of 27 October, Tahsif met Dip in the garage of the RAJUK Uttara Apartment Project. They then communicated repeatedly by mobile phone and WhatsApp until midnight.

Tahsif's father K M Enayetul Karim, meanwhile, is unwilling to accept his son's death as natural. Claiming the incident was a planned murder, he has called for the real mystery to be uncovered.
