All 139 candidates fail at 14 Nilphamari institutions in HSC exams

Staff Reporter

Not a single student from 12 educational institutions in Nilphamari district passed the 2026 HSC examinations under the Dinajpur Education Board. In addition, every candidate from two more institutions in the district under the Madrasa Education Board also failed. Altogether, all 139 students of 14 institutions in the district failed, according to the results published on Saturday (31 October).

The colleges with zero passes are Adarsha College, Panchpukur School and College, Taranibari School and College and Lakshmichap Srijanshil College in Nilphamari Sadar upazila; Bherbheri Majhapara School and College and Nayan Khan School and College in Kishoreganj upazila; Jamirbari Mahila College and Bagdokcra Nimojkhana High School and College in Domar upazila; Samiruddin Adarsha High School and College in Jaldhaka upazila; and Adabari School and College, Zila Parishad School and College and Gayakharibari Mahila College in Dimla upazila.

The two institutions under the Madrasa Education Board are Porahat Islamia Alim Madrasa in Syedpur and Panga Choupathi Abdul Majid Alim Madrasa in Domar. Seven candidates sat from Porahat Madrasa and 15 from Panga Choupathi Madrasa; none of them passed.

After the results were published, some of the institutions expressed surprise, while others pointed to the salary and allowance crisis as a cause of the debacle. Local people said the salary bills of many of the failed institutions have not even been opened yet.

Sariul Islam, a lecturer at Adarsha College in Nilphamari Sadar, said: 'The institution has been running for 25 years; there has never been a result like this before. No salary bill of our institution has been opened yet. We, the 37 staff of the college, are living an inhuman life. The government is taking no steps in this regard.'

Abul Kalam, principal of Panga Choupathi Abdul Majid Alim Madrasa in Domar, said: 'Fifteen students from our madrasa took part this time and all of them failed. Even after teaching everyone with due importance, I cannot understand why the result turned out like this. Most students failed in one subject; we have planned to challenge the board.'

Guardians have also expressed anger at the results. A guardian named Moniruzzaman said: 'Students of a college — 40 or 50 of them taking part — all failing is unacceptable. If even a few had passed, it could still have been accepted that they tried.' Some local people also blame the institutions' negligence for the 100 percent failure at the 14 institutions.

Attempts were made several times to contact education officials about the matter, but none of them answered the phone.

The district's overall picture is also worrying. In 2025, the HSC pass rate in Nilphamari district was 63.71 percent; in 2026 it fell by 13.79 percentage points. The news of 100 percent failure at 14 institutions has come amid this sharp one-year drop in the pass rate.
