HSC result disaster: zero passes at six Khulna institutions and five Sirajganj madrasas, all 72 candidates fail
The HSC and equivalent examination results published on Saturday (31 October) revealed a major failure in two districts. Not a single student passed from six educational institutions in Khulna, and the pass count was also zero at five madrasas in Sirajganj, where all 72 candidates failed.
The Khulna institutions from which no candidate passed are Khulna Model Women's College, Khulna Independent Ideal College, Kapilmuni Sahachari Vidyamandir in Khulna, Koyra Shakbaria School and College, Comrade Ratan Sen Collegiate Girls' College in Rupsha upazila, and Khulna Newsprint Mills School and College. The picture emerged from a review of the HSC results published on Saturday.
Professor Dr Abdul Matin, secretary of the Jessore Board, said the heads of the institutions with a hundred percent failure rate would be served show-cause notices this year as well. If necessary, he said, the renewal of these institutions' affiliation could be stopped.
In Sirajganj, according to the results published by the Bangladesh Madrasah Education Board, no student passed the 2026 HSC and equivalent Alim examination from five madrasas in the district. All 72 candidates who sat the examination from these institutions failed, raising questions about their teaching activities and the quality of education.
The madrasas with a hundred percent failure rate are Shyampur Kazi Ismail Hossain Alim Madrasa in Sirajganj Sadar upazila, Amchhara Islamia Darul Ulum Fazil Madrasa and Telizana Alim Madrasa in Raiganj upazila, Dobila Islamia Fazil Madrasa in Tarash upazila, and Chandragati Alim Madrasa in Ullapara upazila.
An analysis of the board's results shows that all eight candidates from Shyampur Kazi Ismail Hossain Alim Madrasa failed. None of the 21 candidates from Amchhara Islamia Darul Ulum Fazil Madrasa in Raiganj and none of the 15 from Telizana Alim Madrasa passed either. The 14 candidates of Dobila Islamia Fazil Madrasa in Tarash and the 14 of Chandragati Alim Madrasa in Ullapara also failed. In other words, the pass count among the 72 candidates of the five institutions is zero, with the highest number of failures, 21, at the Amchhara madrasa in Raiganj.
Local residents blamed the teachers' teaching activities for the result disaster. Anisur Rahman, a resident of the area adjoining Chandragati Alim Madrasa in Ullapara upazila, said: 'The teachers do not take classes regularly.' He believes such irregularities in teaching are why the institution's students failed one hundred percent.
Attempts were made to contact the heads of the five madrasas for their comments, but their mobile phones were found switched off, so their account of the reasons behind the result disaster could not be obtained.
Sirajganj's Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Rozina Akter said: 'The madrasas with a hundred percent failure rate will be served show-cause notices. The matter will also be reviewed and necessary action taken.' The district administration likewise said the madrasas would be served show-cause notices and necessary measures taken.
