Armed 'Ashik Gang Shooter' Jony Arrested with Guns and Ammunition in Khulna's Shipyard Area

The Special Response Battalion (SRB)-6 has arrested Jony (22), a shooter of the Ashik gang, with a one-shooter gun, a double-barrelled gun and 10 rounds of shotgun ammunition during a raid in Khulna's Shipyard area. The information was given in a press release sent to the media on Sunday (November 1).

The arrested Jony is the son of the late Jahid Hasan of the Chanmari Bazar area of Khulna.

According to the release, at around 1:30am on Saturday night (October 31), a team of SRB-6's CPC Special Company, acting on a tip-off, conducted a special operation in the Shipyard area under Sadar police station of the Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP). During the raid, Jony — known as a shooter of the Ashik group — was surrounded, searched and arrested, and the weapons and ammunition were recovered from him.

The SRB said Jony and his associates had long been spreading terror in the area. A preliminary review found at least four cases against Jony at Khulna Sadar and Labanchara police stations, including under the Arms Act, for murder and for attempted murder.

A case under the Arms Act has been filed against the arrested accused, and he has been handed over to Khulna Sadar police station.
