Nine students of the government Zilla School in Gopalganj have been given transfer certificates (TC) by the school authorities for chanting 'Joy Bangla' and 'Joy Bangabandhu'. The certificates were issued on Thursday (November 5) on the basis of an inquiry report.

Gopalganj Zilla School head teacher Md Ziaul Haq confirmed the matter.

Teachers and students of the school said that on October 6 at noon, after the tiffin period, several students of classes eight, nine and ten chanted 'Joy Bangla' and 'Joy Bangabandhu' in a classroom corridor. The video was later recorded on a mobile phone and spread on the social media platform Facebook.

The next day, October 7, a seven-member inquiry committee was formed headed by assistant teacher Md Iqbal Hossain. After reviewing the school's CCTV footage and the video, the inquiry report was handed to the head teacher on Wednesday (November 4), and the decision was taken to give the nine students transfer certificates.

Inquiry committee head assistant teacher Iqbal Hossain said: 'After political slogans were chanted at the school, the inquiry report was handed to the head teacher after reviewing the video footage. In light of that, according to the decision of the school authorities, they have been given transfer certificates from the school.'

Head teacher Md Ziaul Haq said: 'On October 6, some students chanted slogans of a banned political party inside the school. At that time I was at prayers; after returning from prayers, an intelligence agency phoned me to ask about the procession. Later I heard from other teachers and confirmed that this kind of procession or slogans had taken place at the school. So this decision was taken on the instruction of the higher authorities.'
