Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University students protest for eighth day over research field, demand quick legal steps

Staff Reporter

Students of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU) demonstrated in front of the administrative building demanding the recovery of the university's old research field. They asked to know the progress of filing a case to get the field back. They also demanded that a syndicate meeting be called quickly.

On Thursday (5 November) at noon, the students gathered for the eighth day in front of the university's flag stand. They then marched to the front of the administrative building and demonstrated there.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Abdul Latif, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Belal Hossain, Treasurer Professor Abul Bashar, Proctor Professor Dr Arfan Ali, and the convener of the field-related steering committee and Postgraduate Dean Professor M. Salahuddin Ahmad Chowdhury were present there at the time.

When the students asked about the progress of filing the case, Professor M. Salahuddin Ahmad Chowdhury said: 'The work is ongoing. We have spoken to the firms. The land belonged to The Bengal Agricultural Institute. It was handed over to Public Works without our concern. So a miscellaneous case must be filed first, then a writ.'

The students demanded that a syndicate meeting be called quickly and the necessary legal steps be taken to recover the field.

Their demand is that the plan to build a secretariat on the university's old research field be cancelled and the field be returned to the university.
